Vouchers instead of baby bonus money

It’s a little weird when you’re discussing the government one day and make a suggestion about what they should do only to find out the very next day that your suggestion is exactly what they are going to do!

DH and I were talking about the baby bonus and how some parents don’t spend the money on the baby and instead use it for drugs, alcohol, gambling or whatever. I mentioned that instead of the lump sum being given to these parents, that the allowance should be given in the form of gift vouchers to baby product stores so they can purchase everything the baby needs.

This morning on the news, I heard that this is exactly what they want to do but apparently they’re focussing it on indigenous communities and irresponsible parents .

Well done, Rudd Government!
